Paul Bearer is Born

Paul Bearer met all the requirements of what it took to be a manger in WWE (then WWF) during the company's "campy" era of wrestling. Have a iconic voice? Check: Bearer's unusual high way of speaking is unmatched by anyone else in wrestling. Have a ludicrous gimmick? Check: Nothing beats a wrestling mortician. Manage a dominant wrestler? Check: No one in wrestling history is more fearsome than The Undertaker. Paul Bearer is perhaps the greatest manager of all time, and we here recognize and respect the contributions he made to sports entertainment as a whole. "Rest. In. Peace."

ABOUT The May 22, 2020 edition of Friday Night SmackDown was hosted from the  Performance Center  in Orlando, Florida. RESULTS Segment #1: "The Dirt Sheet" has a surprise guest The Miz and John Morrison open the show, much like they did last week . They lambasted the Universal Champion Braun Strowman for being dumb enough to partner with Otis last week. Braun didn't take too kindly to being called small-minded though. He got in the face of both "Dirt Sheet" hosts, talling them they should mind their own business, otherwise their gonna "Get These Hands." "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is Born

Image
Roderick Toombs, better known to wrestling audiences as "Rowdy" Roddy Piper , made his WWE ( then WWF ) debut in 1984. Piper, like a surprising number of the wrestling greats, debuted as a manager . His mic work was superb at this time, but Piper really started to shine when he became an active in-ring talent. Never one to shy away from controversy, the "Rowdy" one did all sorts of dastardly things, most notably calling out celebrities like Mr. T and Cyndi Lauper . In fact, Piper starred in the main event of the first WrestleMania across the ring from Mr. T. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is considered by his peers to be the greatest heel in wrestling history, and it is hard to disagree with them. RIP and long live the "Hot Rod."
