The tide turns in the Monday Night Wars

On April 13, 1998 WWE (then WWF) turned the tide in the Monday Night Wars against WCW. For 84 weeks, WCW's Monday Nitro had bested WWF's Monday Night Raw in a battle of television ratings. However, the popularity of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and the utter hate for Mr. McMahon were undeniable. A match for the WWF Championship between the hard-hitting Austin and the corporate stooge McMahon was what finally pushed the rating's war in WWF's favor. WCW was never able to recover, eventually being purchased by WWF in 2001.
