The first World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion is Crowned


On May 5, 1905 George Hackenschmidt defeated Tom Jenkins in the final match of a tournament to become the first ever World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. This would propel Hackenschmidt to superstardom, leading to a memorable, career-long feud against Frank Gotch. In 2016, Hackenschmidt was among several inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame.
